“Tapping the B.R.A.K.E.S” Training:
This training is our introductory course that helps staff learn the importance of being trauma-informed in their interactions with ALL youth. Many youth do not have “large” trauma, and yet they may have relational trauma that contributes to their behaviors. From there, the training goes into the importance of the adult mindset and how we “show up” to our work in order to model balance, emotional regulation, and problem solving. Key strategies, for in the moment regulation and problem solving are discussed to help staff feel prepared for work with youth! This will help staff “Spot the Success” with each student and foster curiosity, engagement, and growth!
The second half of this training focuses on teaching the YOUTH ways that “Tapping the B.R.A.K.E.S” can help them regulate their emotions and find balance between independence AND connection. The acronym is broken down with examples of how to teach each step, and staff learn ways to identify when and how to use each step with youth to help them thrive! Examples will focus on the needs of your staff and specific population of youth to tailor the learning to what is needed. Additionally, the importance of structure and how to create one to foster BALANCE will be discussed to support staff in knowing what to do when they encounter behaviors.
“Mapping the Route to Balance” Training:
Our longer training has all the same content as the four hour training, but the afternoon is spent exploring how to create a culture of curiosity and growth by using the skills in the morning session. We will bring in the analogy of “mapping your route to balance” as a way to add additional strategies for explaining concepts to staff AND students. When on the road, we have rules and we have choices. When we ae “mapping our route to balance,” we also have to learn the rules, understand our choices, look at the impact of our choices, and decide what makes sense for us. This additional training will help staff see how their everyday efforts in “Tapping the B.R.A.K.E.S” are helping youth chart new territory and learn how to navigate their own needs and drive to be independent, as well as connect to and foster relationships with others.
Behavior Consultation:
All the training in the world cannot replace ongoing consultation about challenging situations. Once staff have learned the strategies, it may be time for having someone from the outside to bounce ideas off of. When we are in it, we often can’t see the whole picture. That is where the ongoing or “as needed” consultation can come in handy. We will meet with you and your team to discuss specific cases and talk through ways to approach them within YOUR structure.
All services include an initial meeting to determine specific needs so that all content is tailored to your staff needs and population.
